Financial assistance for specialized French courses by field of employment for immigrants

The Québec government offers financial assistance to encourage you to take specialized courses by field of employment.

You may be eligible to receive assistance for course registering and for childcare or disabled dependents.

It is recommended that you apply for financial assistance at the beginning of the session.

You have 60 days after the start of the session to apply for financial assistance.

General notice

Important:

If you started a French course or filed an application for registration before June 1st, 2023, and have not yet applied for financial assistance, you should contact your training institution to find out what steps to take and obtain the financial assistance form to complete.

Financial assistance for your participation in the courses

You could receive $28 for each day you take a course of 3 hours or more.

To qualify for this financial assistance, you must take at least 4 hours of French classes per week.

You can apply for financial assistance for course participation using the same form as your course registration. You must answer "Oui" (Yes) to the question: « Souhaitez-vous recevoir l’aide financière pour participer aux cours ? » ("Would you like to receive financial assistance for course participation?")

You are not eligible to receive this financial assistance if:

  • You or your spouse are receiving social assistance benefits (last-resort financial assistance, Employment Objective, social solidarity or social assistance);
  • You are already receiving money from:
    • employment insurance (when unemployed)
    • the Mesure de formation de la main-d'œuvre (Workforce Training Measure Program),
    • the Commission des normes, de l’équité, de la santé et de la sécurité au travail (CNESST),
    • Québec Parental Insurance Plan (maternity or parental leave).
    • the Financial assistance program for skills recognition (PAFFARC in French);
    • the Financial assistance for Ukrainian nationals (SAPU in French);
  • you have a refugee claim under analysis by the Government of Canada;
  • you are a member of a consular corps, a diplomatic corps or an international organization.

Financial assistance for the care of your children or disabled dependents

You could receive $9 for each child that must be babysat for you to attend a course of 3 hours or more. To qualify for this financial assistance, you must take at least 4 hours of French classes per week.

You can also apply for this financial assistance for the care of your dependents who have disabilities.

The application for financial assistance for childcare and disabled dependents can be made on the same form as your course registration.

You must answer "Oui" (Yes) to the question: « Demandez-vous une aide financière pour la garde de vos enfants ou de personnes handicapées à votre charge ? » ("Are you applying for financial assistance for the care of your children or disabled dependents?")

For each child or disabled person in your care, you must indicate:

  • Their first name;
  • Date of birth;
  • The child care facility attended.

You will need to keep this information current in your file.

If your spouse is also taking a French course, only one parent can receive childcare assistance.

To find a childcare service, consult the List of available childcare centres (CPE) and daycare centres.

General notice

You are not eligible to receive this financial assistance if:

  • The person who is looking after your child is your spouse;
  • You have a refugee claim under analysis by the Government of Canada;
  • You or your spouse are already receiving this type of financial assistance.
