Submitting an application

You can make an application before the start of the school year, which runs from September 1 to August 31. You have up to 60 days following your last month of study in the current school year to submit an application.

Before making an application, you must meet with the person responsible for integrating persons with disabilities at your educational institution.

They will evaluate your situation and determine the types of support that will compensate for your disability and are necessary for you to pursue your studies. In some cases, the educational institution already offers them. Otherwise, the person responsible will verify if you are eligible for the Program.

This person will make a recommendation which you must submit to us. They will also give you a list of documents to provide and forms to complete.

Afterwards, you must make an application for an allowance for special needs in your Student Financial Assistance File and send us the necessary documents.

Your application is not renewed automatically. You must therefore submit a new application for each year of study. However, the person responsible for integrating persons with disabilities at your educational institution must fill out a recommendation for each study period or term, depending on the situation.

To complete your application for an allowance, you will need the following information:

  • your permanent code This hyperlink will open in a new window.
  • your social insurance number
  • the codes for your educational institution and your program of study

Once the application is submitted, you have up to 60 days following your last month of study in the current school year, which is from September 1 to August 31, to provide the recommendation of the person responsible for integrating persons with disabilities at your educational institution and the other documents that they asked you to complete:
