Important

Due to COVID-19, please note that all Explore 2020 spring and summer sessions have been cancelled.

Program description

The Explore program makes it possible for students to benefit from an immersion experience and improve their knowledge of one of Canada’s two official languages: French or English. The five-week spring or summer program makes it possible for participants to learn their second language at an accredited educational institution while discovering a region of Québec or the rest of Canada. Explore is not a skills development program for bilingual students.

Funded by the Department of Canadian Heritage as part of the Official Languages Support Programs, Explore is offered throughout Canada under the aegis of provincial and territorial ministries of education and coordinated nationally by the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC) This hyperlink will open in a new window.. In Québec, the Ministère de l'Éducation et de l'Enseignement supérieur This hyperlink will open in a new window. administers the Explore Program.

The random draw is conducted by the CMEC. The date of the initial draw will be posted on the official Explore website This hyperlink will open in a new window. and Facebook page This hyperlink will open in a new window.. Additional weekly draws are held by participating educational institutions until such time as all places declined by recipients have been reassigned to other candidates.

Every year, more than 3000 Québec students receive a financial contribution, enabling them to take part in the program.

The Youth Initiative!

Explore now includes a Youth Initiative component for young people of between 13 and 15 years of age.

The goal of this three-week immersion program is to foster learning one of Canada’s two official languages: French or English. This new component will be offered in July or August at selected Canadian educational institutions. The list of participating schools will be available on the Explore website at www.myexplore.ca This hyperlink will open in a new window., in the “Youth Initiative” tab.

The financial contribution in the amount of $2000 is paid directly to host schools and is used to cover the cost of participating in the Youth Initiative, such as accommodations, meals and the course itself. Participants need only pay registration fees of $275 to the host school and cover the cost of transportation.
