The Explore program makes it possible for students to benefit from an immersion experience and improve their knowledge of one of Canada’s two official languages: French or English. The five-week spring or summer program makes it possible for participants to learn their second language at an accredited educational institution while discovering a region of Québec or the rest of Canada. Explore is not a skills development program for bilingual students.
Funded by the Department of Canadian Heritage as part of the Official Languages Support Programs, Explore is offered throughout Canada under the aegis of provincial and territorial ministries of education and coordinated nationally by the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC) . In Québec, the Ministère de l'Éducation and the ministère de l'Enseignement supérieur administers the Explore Program.
The random draw is conducted by the CMEC. The date of the initial draw will be posted on the official Explore website and Facebook page . Additional weekly draws are held by participating educational institutions until such time as all places declined by recipients have been reassigned to other candidates.
Every year, more than 3000 Québec students receive a financial contribution, enabling them to take part in the program.
Explore Program component for students 13 to 15 years of age
The Explore Program includes a component for young people between 13 and 15 years of age. The goal of this three-week immersion program is to foster learning one of Canada’s two official languages: French or English. This immersion program is offered in July or August at selected Canadian educational institutions. The list of participating schools will be available on the Explore website.
The financial contribution in the amount of $2000 is paid directly to host schools and is used to cover the costs of participating in the immersion program, including accommodations, meals and the course itself. Participants pay registration fees of $275 to the host school and cover the cost of transportation.
