Motor Vehicle Body Repairers

Job description

These individuals repair damaged parts of motor vehicles. They repaint the body and repair or replace glass components. They work for:

  • Dealers
  • Motor vehicle manufacturing and assembly plants
  • Body shops
  • Appraisal centres

Main tasks

  • Read the damage assessment report to determine and plan the repairs to be made.
  • Shape the motor vehicle body (dents, creases, and other defects).
  • Level holes, dents, and joints.
  • Remove damaged parts and bolt or weld replacement parts.
  • Straighten frames.
  • File, grind, and sand repaired surfaces.
  • Mask and fix car surfaces before painting.
  • Repair and replace glass components.
  • Inspect repaired vehicles and test them on the road for stability and steering.

Advancement and mobility

  • Experience leads to supervisory positions.
  • Qualified Auto Body Repairer-Painters receive a Red Seal endorsement upon successful completion of the Interprovincial Examination.
