The Renewed Prosperity Through Greater Training Program (PARAF) came into effect on November 30, 2020. It aims at supporting people affected by the pandemic who seek to requalify or to develop their skills. Thanks to this program, participants can follow professional training while receiving financial assistance. Moreover, people who are already receiving financial assistance can see their assistance increased.
End of the Program Registration Period
It is no longer possible to submit an application for the Program.
If you submitted an application by 11:59 p.m. on April 30, 2021, an employment assistance officer will contact you as soon as possible to analyze your situation.
If you submitted by April 30, 2021 at the latest and have agreed with an officer about participation in a training that begins before December 31, 2021, the end of the registration period has no effect on your file and you will be able to take part in the training.
Following up on applications
If you submitted an application (online, by mail, or if you talked to an officer by phone to apply) before 11:59 p.m. on April 30, 2021, an employment assistance officer will contact you. To be registered with PARAF, you’ll need to take part in a meeting with an officer. This person will work with you to determine a training path that could lead you to an occupation with good job prospects, and to make sure you are eligible.
To be able to receive benefits from the PARAF program, your training must begin before December 31, 2021.
Note: If you submitted an application that was rejected because training was starting after September 25, 2021, you could submit it again. It could be eligible if the training starts before December 31, 2021. If this situation applies to you, contact an employment assistance officer working at a Services Québec office .
French or literacy training or general secondary school classes are not eligible under this program. However, those taking such classes may qualify for income support. Inquire with an employment assistance officer working at a Services Québec office to find out more.
Please note that if you have started your training and are currently benefiting from the loans and bursaries program, you are not eligible for PARAF.
PARAF provides a weekly $500 employment assistance benefit, or increases the benefit to $500 per week for recipients who are already receiving financial assistance from the Gouvernement du Québec. The employment assistance benefit is paid for the entire duration of the training.
Evaluation of applications
An employment assistance officer will evaluate your situation and needs. If you are eligible, they will walk you through the application process. Otherwise, they will direct you to another program more suited to your needs.
Please note that the training you apply for must start before December 31, 2021.
Help qualifying to find a job
In addition to the various assistance programs implemented by the governments of Québec and Canada to support citizens during the COVID-19 pandemic, many services are available to help you develop your skills. Check the Employment Assistance page for more details.
An online questionnaire is available. It can help you find the program that best suits your situation. After answering a dozen questions, you’ll have access to a list of resources that can help you improve your access to the labour market.
