Job description

These individuals organize, direct, and evaluate programs and activities. They work, among other things, in :

  • Community and social service agencies
  • Correctional institutions
  • Autonomous community bodies
  • Employability organizations
  • Cooperatives
  • Job placement agencies
  • Adapted work centres
  • Social economy enterprises
  • Non-governmental organizations

Environment

  • Controlled ambient temperature
  • Hazardous workplaces
  • Violence

Main tasks

  • Administer programs of social and community agencies and services.
  • Manage the operations of social and community centres, correctional institutions, and detention centres.
  • Ensure the achievement of objectives set by the Board of Directors or senior management.
  • Direct and advise staff.
  • Manage budgets for programs, equipment, and support services.
  • Represent the organization to the government and the media.
  • Participate in policy development.
  • Draft reports and briefing papers.
  • Hire and train specialists and staff.
  • Ensure democratic governance of non-profit organizations and cooperatives or mutuals.

Advancement and mobility

  • Experience and additional training lead to senior management positions in social, community, and correctional services.
