Job description

These individuals manage the activities of a conservation or exhibition space. They work in:

  • Libraries
  • Archival services
  • Museums
  • Art galleries

Environment

  • Controlled ambient temperature

Main tasks

  • Plan, direct, control, and evaluate the institutions’ activities.
  • Develop and administer policies, programs, and budgets.
  • Prepare and implement, alongside a team, a communication and marketing plan.
  • Implement projects.
  • Apply for grants and funding.
  • Prepare operational and financial analyses, recommendations, and reports.
  • Ensure human resources management (recruit, train, manage, evaluate).
  • Fulfill, as required, the functions of a librarian, archivist, or curator.
  • Ensure the management of the institution’s material resources.
  • Develop and implement the institution’s strategic plan.

Advancement and mobility

  • These individuals may specialize in a particular kind of collection.
  • There is some mobility between library managers and archives managers.
  • There is some mobility between museum managers and art gallery managers.
