Job description

Accountants plan, organize, and administer accounting systems.

Professional Accountants Auditors examine and analyze accounting records and financial records. They are self-employed or work for accounting and auditing firms in the public and private sectors.

Main tasks

Accountants

  • Design, implement, and administer accounting systems.
  • Examine accounting records and prepare financial statements and reports.
  • Design and apply calculation methods and internal control procedures.
  • Review and analyze financial statements and accounts.
  • Prepare income tax returns.
  • Provide financial or tax advice.
  • Act as liquidator in bankruptcy cases.
  • Supervise and train interns or staff.

Chartered Professional Accountant Auditors

  • Review and analyze accounting documents (e.g. account books, ledger, statements, inventories, tax returns).
  • Verify the accuracy of entries and ensure compliance with established methods and procedures.
  • Draft detailed audit reports.
  • Make recommendations to improve accounting practices and the financial position of clients.
  • Conduct audit engagements in companies to ensure compliance with laws.
  • Supervise colleagues or individuals responsible for accounting at clients’ premises.

Advancement and mobility

  • Experience leads to management positions.
