Job description

Securities and Investment Agents buy and sell stocks, bonds, treasury bills, and mutual funds. They are employed by:

  • Investors
  • Pension fund managers
  • Banks
  • Trust companies
  • Insurance companies

Security Traders buy and sell various securities (stocks, bonds, property, foreign currency) on the exchange on behalf of investment agents. They are employed by:

  • Investment companies
  • Brokerage firms
  • The stock exchange

Environment

Main tasks

Securities and Investment Agents

  • Develop a long-term relationship with clients.
  • Develop investment strategies to achieve clients’ financial goals.
  • Inform, guide, and advise clients on investments and portfolio management.
  • Study financial documents and business publications.
  • Develop a network of contacts in the financial sector to learn about interesting investments.
  • Execute orders on investments by buying and selling securities.
  • Verify clients’ investment portfolios and ensure that transactions are regulatory.

Security Traders

  • Review investment information.
  • Monitor market conditions on the stock exchange.
  • Communicate with business departments and investment companies.
  • Discuss with pension fund managers and financial analysts from investment firms.
  • Develop business strategies and make offers to buy or sell securities.
  • Take note of the sales details.
  • Prepare portfolio performance reports.
