Job description

These individuals perform administrative and secretarial tasks in a legal environment.

Main tasks

  • Write, edit, and proofread letters and legal documents (notarial deeds, wills, affidavits, briefs, etc.) according to legal procedures and grammatical usage.
  • Schedule appointments, meetings, and conferences.
  • Establish and maintain filing systems for documents and legal procedures according to current standards.
  • Ensure the security of confidential documents.
  • Open and distribute incoming mail and other documents.
  • Coordinate the flow of information internally and with other departments or agencies.
  • Develop and implement work methods.
  • Train staff in work methods and the use of common software and supervise their use.
  • Take notes at court hearings, meetings, or conferences and transcribe them into shorthand as required.
  • Take minutes.

Advancement and mobility

  • Legal Administrative Assistants may work with, among others:
    • Judges (as judicial assistants)
    • Lawyers
    • Notaries
    • Prosecutors
