Job description

These individuals collect, process, and maintain banking and insurance information. They work in:

  • Banks
  • Credit companies
  • Insurance companies
  • Investment companies

Environment

  • Controlled ambient temperature

Main tasks

Bank Clerks

  • Compile various statements (deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, mortgage payments, cheques, etc.).
  • Process various applications and payments (loans, retirement savings plan, term deposits, etc.).
  • Verify and review ATM transactions.
  • Calculate service charges and interest payments.
  • Notify customers of discrepancies between accounts and bank cards.
  • Respond to inquiries about banking products, policies, and services.
  • Sell, as required, drafts, money orders, traveller’s cheques, and foreign currency.
  • Rent, as required, safety deposit boxes.
  • Open and close bank accounts.

Insurance Clerks

  • Process admissions, cancellations, and changes to insurance policies as well as claims and premium payments.
  • Review insurance applications and verify coverage and premiums paid.
  • Calculate insurance premiums, pension benefits, and annuities.
  • Collect and maintain insurance data and records.
  • Respond to inquiries about insurance products, policies, and services.

Other Financial Services Clerks

  • Establish and maintain transactions lists (rentals, sales, and real estate) and securities (stocks, bonds, etc.).
  • Sort, verify, and process real estate and other financial transactions.
  • Respond to inquiries and mail.

Advancement and mobility

  • Experience leads to supervisory positions.
