Job description

These individuals design and test electrical and electronic equipment and systems. They are employed by:

  • Electric utilities
  • Telecommunications companies
  • Manufacturers of electrical and electronic equipment
  • Consulting firms
  • Manufacturing, processing, and transportation industries
  • The public service

Environment

  • Controlled ambient temperature
  • Electricity

Main tasks

  • Estimate the costs and time required for the design of electrical and electronic components, networks, and installations.
  • Develop design specifications, and design and evaluate the performance of such systems and networks.
  • Develop electronic products by conducting simulations and integrating micro or nano devices.
  • Monitor and verify the installation, modification, and operation of systems and devices.
  • Develop and ensure compliance with maintenance and operating standards.
  • Investigate the cause of equipment failures.
  • Prepare contract documents and evaluate bids.
  • Supervise technicians, technologists, programmers, analysts, and other engineers.

Advancement and mobility

  • These individuals may specialize in various fields (residential, commercial, or industrial installations, energy production and transmission, etc.).
  • Experience allows access to senior or supervisory positions.
