Job description
These individuals provide support and technical services to scientists or engineers. They work in various fields (structural engineering, construction, transportation, environment, etc.). They work for:
- Consulting engineering firms
- Construction companies
- Public works and transportation services
- Government services
Environment
- Controlled ambient temperature
- Climatic conditions
- Equipment, machinery, tools
Main tasks
- Develop sketches, specifications, drawings, and plans.
- Estimate project costs and materials required.
- Establish work schedules.
- Write reports.
- Supervise or direct surveys, topographical inspections and studies, water flow, roads, and structures.
- Inspect and experiment with building materials.
- Monitor, control, and inspect construction projects.
Advancement and mobility
- There is some mobility between these positions and those of Survey Technologists and Technicians, Construction Inspectors, and Construction Estimators.
- Experience leads to supervisory and management positions.
