Job description

These individuals are experts at managing common problems and detecting latent, acute, and chronic problems. They identify less common illnesses that can be dangerous, yet treatable. They provide health care to patients. This group includes residents who are in the process of becoming general practitioners or family physicians.

Main tasks

  • Provide comprehensive and proactive health care to patients.
  • Examine patients and record their medical history.
  • Order diagnostic tests (lab tests, X-rays, etc.).
  • Prescribe and administer, as required, medications, emergency care, treatments, and vaccinations.
  • Perform or participate in surgical procedures.
  • Attend births and provide prenatal and postnatal care.
  • Advise and coach patients and their families on health and lifestyle issues.
  • Protect patients’ rights.
  • Coordinate or manage patient care.
  • Report births, deaths, and illnesses to government authorities.
