Medical Radiation Technologists
Job description
Radiological Technologists administer X-rays so a diagnosis can be made.
Nuclear Medicine Technologists take pictures of body structures. These images are used to diagnose and treat injuries and diseases.
Radiation Oncology Technologists administer radiation therapy treatments.
This group includes supervisors and clinical instructors.

Main tasks
Radiology Technologists
- Produce X-rays or images of the human body to enable a diagnosis.
- Record and process patient data.
- Perform summary checks and quality control of equipment.
- Monitor and care for patients during examinations.
- Explain procedures to patients, position them, place equipment, and apply safety procedures.
- Train and supervise students and other technologists.
Nuclear Medicine Technologists
- Prepare patients for biological samples or administer substances to them.
- Collect data.
- Perform diagnostic procedures on biological specimens and record results.
- Ensure that equipment works properly.
- Monitor and care for patients during examinations.
- Apply safety procedures.
- Train and supervise students and other technologists.
Radiation Oncology Technologists
- Administer the radiation prescribed by radiation oncologists.
- Ensure that radiotherapy equipment works properly.
- Collaborate in the development of the radiation therapy program.
- Assist in the preparation of radioactive sources and the manufacture of accessories for dose administration.
- Monitor and care for patients during treatment.
- Explain to patients the possible side effects of radiation.
- Train and supervise students and other technologists.
Advancement and mobility

Additional training leads to some mobility between the three groups of Medical Radiation Technologists.
