Medical Imaging Technologists - Diagnostic Radiology
Job description
These individuals use X-ray machines and radiation therapy to administer ionizing radiation. This allows them to take pictures of body structures to diagnose and treat injuries and diseases. They work for:
- Hospitals
- Oncology centres
- Clinics
- Radiology laboratories
- CEGEPs and Universities

Main tasks
- Produce X-rays or anatomical images of the human body.
- Use a variety of equipment (conventional radiology, ultrasound, mammography, etc.).
- Record and process patient data.
- Carry out checks and quality control of X-ray equipment and devices.
- Monitor and care for patients during X-ray examinations.
- Explain procedures to patients, position people and equipment, and apply radiation safety rules.
- Train and supervise radiology students as required.
- Supervise other radiological technologists, as required.
Advancement and mobility
- Additional training grants some mobility between the three groups of medical radiation technologists.
- These individuals may specialize in various fields (mammography, magnetic resonance imaging, etc.).
