Job description

These individuals produce metabolic and functional images by scintigraphy and radiation emission. This enables them to obtain images of body structures to diagnose and treat lesions and diseases. They work in:

  • Hospitals
  • Oncology centres
  • Clinics
  • Radiology laboratories
  • CEGEPs and Universities

Environment

  • Controlled ambient temperature
  • Equipment, machinery, tools
  • Biological agents
  • Radiation

Main tasks

  • Prepare and administer substances to patients or biological samples.
  • Collect and interpret data.
  • Perform diagnostic procedures on biological specimens and record results.
  • Ensure the proper functioning of equipment.
  • Monitor and care for patients during examinations.
  • Apply safety procedures and instructions.
  • Train and supervise students and other technologists.

Advancement and mobility

  • Additional training enables some mobility between the three groups of medical radiation technologists.
  • These individuals may specialize in various fields (mammography, magnetic resonance imaging, etc.).

Most training programs are offered in French only.
