Job description

These individuals provide advice and information to clients seeking employment. They also advise employers on human resource and employment issues. This group includes Employment Counsellors, career development professionals, and supervisors. They work for:

  • Human resources services
  • Employment assistance agencies
  • Consulting firms
  • Correctional facilities
  • The public service

Environment

  • Controlled ambient temperature

Main tasks

  • Meet with clients to learn about their career and educational backgrounds and career goals.
  • Identify barriers to employment for individuals and help them overcome them (resume writing, mock interviews, etc.).
  • Determine other individual needs (rehabilitation, financial assistance, additional training, etc.).
  • Refer clients to appropriate resources.
  • Help individuals at different levels (job dissatisfaction, career reorientation, career transition, etc.).
  • Inform clients of employment opportunities, access conditions for professions, and required skills.
  • Provide consultation services to various groups and organizations.

Advancement and mobility

  • There is some mobility between these positions and other positions in the personnel or training departments.
  • Experience is required for supervisory positions.
