Job description

These individuals conduct research, collect data, and analyze information to solve economic and business problems. They develop models to analyze and forecast economic phenomena and trends. They provide advice in various fields (finance, international trade, labour market, etc.). They work for:

  • The public service
  • Associations
  • Unions
  • Research organizations
  • Banks
  • Investment companies

Main tasks

  • Analyze, explain, and forecast economic phenomena and trends.
  • Develop methods for collecting and analyzing economic data.
  • Forecast the production and consumption of goods and services based on past trends and the current economy.
  • Forecast trends in income and spending, interest rates, and exchange rates.
  • Suggest measures to increase economic activity.
  • Analyze the factors that influence labour force, employment, wage, and unemployment data.
  • Apply mathematical formulas and statistical techniques to solve economic problems.
  • Study the characteristics of money and credit and the operation of banks and other financial institutions.
  • Evaluate and advise on the effectiveness of monetary and fiscal policies.
  • Conduct research to identify problems related to existing legislation and to propose solutions to the issues raised.
    • Study the facts and points of law related to decisions to be rendered.
    • Draft and disseminate information on new legislation.
