Job description
These individuals conduct research and studies to understand humans, their evolution, society, and language. They define and address social issues in collaboration with other professionals in action research. This group includes individuals who specialize in particular areas of the social sciences.

Main tasks
Anthropologists
- Conduct research on the origin, development, and functioning of human societies and cultures.
Archaeologists
- Study artifacts (objects and structures).
- Reconstruct the economic, social, political, and intellectual life of the past.
Criminologists
- Assess a person’s needs, strengths, risk, and protective factors.
- Assess criminogenic factors in the case of an offender or youth who has committed an offence.
- Develop an intervention plan appropriate to each person’s particular needs.
- Ensure the follow-up and implementation of an intervention plan, including the provision of psychosocial support.
- Intervene with a clientele, voluntary or not, in order to support and restore the capacities of the offender and the victim.
- Accompany people through the judicial process.
- Make recommendations on crime prevention and public protection.
- Analyze and study the causes of crime and its effects on victims.
- Develop programs to assist criminal clients and victims.

- Study and analyze physical, biological, cultural, and social phenomena.
- Interpret and explain their interrelationships.
Gerontologists
- Study human aging, its consequences, and its effect on society.
- Counsel patients, their families, and caregivers to improve seniors’ quality of life.

- Research periods of history or facets of past human activity.
- Interpret and annotate findings.

- Study the origin, structure, and evolution of language.

- Study the theoretical foundations, origin, evolution, and interdependence of political institutions and movements as well as individual behaviour.
