Job description

These individuals sell technical goods and services on the national and international market. This group includes supervisors. They are self-employed, subcontractors, or hired by:

  • Pharmaceutical companies
  • Consulting engineering firms
  • Computer services
  • Hydroelectric companies
  • Industrial equipment manufacturers
  • Import/export companies

Environment

  • Controlled ambient temperature
  • Equipment, machinery, tools
  • Nontoxic dust
  • Uncontrolled ambient temperature

Main tasks

  • Promote the sale of technical goods and services.
  • Target and solicit new clients.
  • Assess customer needs and recommend appropriate goods and services.
  • Provide guidance to the manufacturer of a product when it needs to be adapted to customer needs.
  • Assess the costs of installation and maintenance of equipment or service.
  • Draft and carry out sales contracts.
  • Provide after-sales service and write reports.
  • Train staff in the use and maintenance of products, as required.
  • Conduct sales electronically, as required.
  • Supervise staff, as required.

Advancement and mobility

  • Additional experience or training is required to advance to managerial or supervisory positions.
  • These individuals may specialize in a category of goods or a range of services.
