Job description

These individuals sanitize heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. They inspect and clean ventilation ducts. They work in:

  • Schools
  • Hospitals
  • Plants
  • Buildings
  • Residences
  • Restaurants

Environment

  • Controlled ambient temperature
  • Equipment, machinery, tools
  • Nontoxic dust
  • Uncontrolled ambient temperature
  • Hazardous workplaces
  • Falling objects

Main tasks

  • Treat the inside of ventilation ducts with specialized equipment (rotary brushes, industrial vacuum cleaners, etc.).
  • Adjust the negative pressure in the ducts to vacuum the dust.
  • Remove dirt and non-volatile contaminants.
  • Conduct tests to determine the amount of residual dust in the ducts.
  • Perform manual or robotic cleaning.
  • Plan the work according to blueprints and diagrams.
  • Follow procedures for working at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Travel regularly for work.

Training and requirements

Formation

No specific training

Sometimes required

  • A training certificate in general health and safety on construction sites is often required.
  • A Class 5 driver’s licence is often required.
