Job description

These individuals carry out construction, modification, repair, and maintenance work on electrical installations. They use wires, cables, conduits, and other accessories. The installations can be used for lighting, heating, and motive power.

Main tasks

  • Read and interpret diagrams, circuit plans, and specifications from the Canadian Electrical Code.
  • Run cable through conduits and through walls and floors.
  • Install brackets and consoles on which the electrical equipment will be mounted.
  • Install, replace, and repair lighting fixtures and electrical control and distribution equipment.
  • Establish circuits by joining and connecting cables to devices and components.
  • Check circuits for compatibility and safety, identify system faults, and replace defective components.
  • Connect the power supply to the communication, heating, and air-conditioning devices.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and keep maintenance records.

Advancement and mobility

  • Experience leads to supervisory positions.
  • Qualified Construction Electricians receive a Red Seal endorsement upon successful completion of the Interprovincial Examination.

The hourly wage is calculated by averaging wages from 2019 to 2021.
