Job description

These individuals install, repair, or replace flat roofs. They do the same with shingles, tiles, and overlaps for pitched roofs.

Environment

Main tasks

Roofers

  • Erect scaffolding.
  • Install, repair, or replace roofing systems.
  • Install rainwater collection ducts (gutters).
  • Apply water-repellent coatings on concrete.
  • Estimate the cost of necessary materials, as required.
  • Provide estimates.

Shinglers

  • Erect scaffolding.
  • Lay or replace shingles and tiles on sloped building roofs.

Advancement and mobility

  • Qualified Roofers receive a Red Seal endorsement upon successful completion of the Interprovincial Examination.
  • Experience leads to supervisory positions.

Hourly wage

The hourly wage is calculated by averaging wages from 2019 to 2021.
