Job description

These individuals assemble, finish, and inspect plastic parts and products. They are employed by manufacturers of plastic products or by other plants.

Environment

  • Controlled ambient temperature
  • Equipment, machinery, tools
  • Hazardous chemical

  • Fire, steam, hot surfaces

Main tasks

Assemblers and Finishers

  • Cut, trim, and adjust plastic parts.
  • Assemble composite materials (e.g. fibreglass) to form parts.
  • Apply resin mixes to metal or wooden moulds.
  • Bond parts and assemblies.
  • Grind or polish products and give them a final shape.

Controllers

  • Inspect manufactured plastic parts for defects and verify compliance with specifications and standards.
  • Apply seals or labels to approved components.
  • Identify and return defective products.
  • Prepare reports on the products verified.
  • Modify products and perform minor repairs.
  • Train staff.
