Job description
These individuals perform tasks related to the preparation and handling of metal materials. They are employed by:
- Steel frame manufacturers
- Heavy machinery manufacturers
- Boiler shops
- Sheet metal works
- Shipyards
Environment
- Controlled ambient temperature

Main tasks
- Read and interpret commands.
- Remove excess weld beads, rust, or scale from metal products.
- Identify, from a work order, the equipment needed to manufacture metal parts.
- Grind, cut, or remove excess metal from metal products.
- Polish products and soak them in cleaning solutions.
- Assist skilled tradespeople in metalworking.
- Transport raw materials and finished products.
- Sort sheets, metal components, and scrap metal.
- Clean work areas and equipment.
- Operate overhead cranes, forklifts, or other lifting equipment.
