Job description

These individuals perform tasks related to the preparation and handling of metal materials. They are employed by:

  • Steel frame manufacturers
  • Heavy machinery manufacturers
  • Boiler shops
  • Sheet metal works
  • Shipyards

Environment

Main tasks

  • Read and interpret commands.
  • Remove excess weld beads, rust, or scale from metal products.
  • Identify, from a work order, the equipment needed to manufacture metal parts.
  • Grind, cut, or remove excess metal from metal products.
  • Polish products and soak them in cleaning solutions.
  • Assist skilled tradespeople in metalworking.
  • Transport raw materials and finished products.
  • Sort sheets, metal components, and scrap metal.
  • Clean work areas and equipment.
  • Operate overhead cranes, forklifts, or other lifting equipment.
