An Act respecting the ministère de la Sécurité publique
The act rules the internal organization of the Ministry that is under the direction of the Minister. The Deputy Minister, who is under the Minister's direction, shall administer the department and its staff. The act gives duties and powers to the Minister in policies relating to the maintenance of public safety, to crime prevention, to the implementation and improvement of methods of crime detection and repression and to the imprisonment and social rehabilitation of inmates. The act also provides rules of form and content for all departmental documents.

Civil Protection Laws and Regulations
In force since December 20, 2001, the Civil Protection Act is the Government of Québec's response to the recommendations of the Nicolet Commission Report, "Pour affronter l'imprévisible". This report analyzed the ice storm that ravaged southwestern Québec in January 1998. It' s the key point in the reform of Québec's civil protection system.

Fire Safety Cover Plan
- Section 30.1 regarding the exceptional possibility that a Minister may authorize the amendment of a fire safety cover plan (in French)
that is in effect in order to extend one or more deadlines. This new section is in force since December 14, 2006.
- Article 24 has been replaced. The new article was adopted on 17 June 2009 and into force the same day.

An Act respecting the Québec Correctional System
The purpose of this Act is to establish the general principles that are to guide the actions of correctional services of the Ministère de la Sécurité publique, the Commission québécoise des libérations conditionnelles and their community-based partners as well as all other stakeholders of the correctional system as they exercise their respective functions. Underlying these general principles is the objective of protecting society, ensuring compliance with the decisions of the courts and reintegrating offenders into the community.
In addition, the bill defines the role of correctional services officers, parole officers and correctional counsellors, granting them the status of peace officers in the exercise of their functions.
Note: This Act has replaced the Act respecting correctional services and the Act to promote the parole of inmates, since 5 February 2007.

The Minister of Sécurité publique is responsible for the application of the Traffic supervision clause, art. 650.

Bicycle Ownership Act
According to this law, it is forbidden to obliterate, deface or remove the serial number or other identification mark affixed by the manufacturer on a bicycle. It is also forbidden to purchase, sell, exchange or demolish a bicycle when its identification mark has been altered in such a way.
Any person who operates a business of used bicycles shall keep a register of all purchases, exchanges, sales and other trades of used bicycles or parts of these.

An Act respecting Northern villages and the Kativik Regional Government
Section relating to the police, art. 369 to 377, especially article 377.
Sections 369 to 377 of this Act provide that a regional police force be established and maintained in the territory of Québec located north of the fifty-fifth parallel, excluding the lands intended for the Cree community of Great Whale River. If such a regional police force is established and maintained, Kativik Regional Government shall be a "municipality" within the meaning of the Police Act.
These articles also deal with the mode of appointment, taking the oath and with dismissal of members from the police as well as with the hiring of special constables.
