Preschools and elementary schools

Wearing a mask is mandatory only while using school transportation with multiple grade levels, that is, aboard buses or in sedans transporting students from different grades.

Elementary school

In the following regions, wearing a mask is mandatory at all times inside the school, including in classrooms, at the daycare, in common areas and while students are circulating, as well as while using school transportation:

  • Centre-du-Québec
  • Estrie
  • Lanaudière
  • Laurentides
  • Laval
  • Mauricie
  • Montérégie
  • Montréal
  • Outaouais
  • Ville de Baie-Comeau
  • Chaudière-Appalaches (except for the Montmagny, L’Islet, Lotbinière and Lévis regional county municipalities)
  • Matapédia regional county municipality

In the other regions of Québec, students are not required to wear a mask in class. However, masks are mandatory in common areas and while students are circulating, as well as while using school transportation.

Extracurricular activities

Extracurricular activities and sports can continue.

However, it is possible that students may be required to temporarily stop participating in their extracurricular activities, for example, if they have been in contact with a person at school who has tested positive for COVID-19.

Consult the Guidelines specific to education to learn about all the measures that apply to elementary school.
