Receipt of a notification from the Land Register

Have you received a letter in the mail from the ministère des Ressources naturelles et des Forêts informing you of an event that affects your property?

It should be noted that several actions require a notification to be mailed:

  • a warning about the intention to exercise a mortgage right (taking in payment, sale under court control, sale by the creditor and taking possession for administrative purposes);
  • a warning about the sale of an immovable following the non-payment of municipal taxes;
  • a notice requiring the creditor (lender) to abandon taking possession of the immovable;
  • an immovable that was auctioned off and sold for failure to pay property tax;
  • an immovable that is the subject of a seizure.

You may also receive a notification because you hold part of a lot and the owner of the other part has not paid the money owed to the creditor, and the creditor has commenced proceedings to recover the money. All owners are then notified.

What do I do with this notification?

If you have received a letter from the ministère des Ressources naturelles et des Forêts, it is important to check that it is addressed to you and that the address of the property mentioned in the notification is your address.

If you are the owner, you are invited to consult with a legal professional who can tell you what steps to take.

If you have any questions, you may also contact the Centre de relation avec la clientèle de l’information foncière.
