Financial assistance offered

The types and amounts of financial assistance you may be eligible for depend on the sub-stream of the program you apply under.

Types of financial assistance

Financial assistance for participation

You may receive financial assistance for taking or passing your refresher training or internship. The amounts allocated depend on the program sub-stream and the kind of training or internship you do.

Financial assistance for childcare

You may receive financial assistance for your dependent children’s childcare costs while you do your refresher training or internship.

If your spouse is also doing full- or part-time refresher training, only one of the two parents can receive financial assistance for childcare.

You cannot receive this financial assistance for childcare if you are receiving it from another government body.

You will be asked for certain documents when you submit your financial assistance application.

The financial assistance for childcare is offered under the following program sub-streams:

  • Full-time training taken in Québec, offered by an educational institution (sub-stream 2A)
  • Part-time training taken in Québec, offered by an educational institution (sub-stream 2B)
  • Training taken in Québec, offered by a regulatory body in the form of an unpaid internship (sub-stream 3B)

Financial assistance for transportation

To receive the transportation allowance, you must use public transit to travel between your home and the training location.

If you live in a region without public transit, the trip allowance may apply.

The financial assistance for transportation costs is offered under the following program sub-streams:

  • Full-time training taken in Québec, offered by an educational institution (sub-stream 2A)
  • Training taken in Québec, offered by a regulatory body in the form of an unpaid internship (sub-stream 3B)

You are not eligible for a transportation allowance if the distance between your place of residence and the training location is less than one kilometre.

Financial assistance for travel

You may receive the trip allowance if you live in a place without public transit to travel between your home and the training location.

To receive the trip allowance, you must use a car to go to and from the training location. The trip allowance is calculated:

  • Based on your kilometrage to get from your home to the training or internship location
  • By the shortest route
  • Per day of training

The financial assistance for travel costs is offered under the following program sub-stream:

  • Full-time training taken in Québec, offered by an educational institution (sub-stream2A)
  • Training taken in Québec, offered by a regulatory body in the form of an unpaid internship (sub-stream 3B)

You are not eligible for a trip allowance if the distance between your place of residence and the training location is less than one kilometre.

If the amount of the trip allowance is lower than that of the transportation allowance, the Ministère may decide to grant you a transportation allowance, even if you requested a trip allowance.
