MONTRÉAL, Oct. 5, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - The Autorité des marchés financiers (the "AMF") is pleased to host the 16th Annual General Meeting and Annual Conference of the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI), which will be held from October 8 to 13, 2017 in Québec City.

This prestigious event will bring together over 200 international representatives from deposit insurers and resolution agencies, central banks, regulators and other major organizations such as the International Monetary Fund and World Bank. All in all, over 70 jurisdictions will be represented.

Under the theme "Deposit Insurance for All – Adapting the Core Principles to Different Structures, Mandates and Types of Institutions," several internationally recognized guest speakers will address issues and challenges related to financial cooperatives and how crisis management and resolution tools developed for traditional banks can be adapted to those financial institutions. In the past few years, the AMF has developed in-depth expertise in this area, in particular through its chairmanship of the IADI subcommittee on resolution issues for financial cooperatives. An important working document developed by this subcommittee will be presented for consultation during the organization's annual general meeting.

"It is a true honour for the AMF to host the 16th IADI Annual General Meeting and Annual Conference, which affords an excellent opportunity to exchange best practices and strengthen the special ties we have built over the years with many IADI members," said AMF President and Chief Executive Officer Louis Morisset. "The AMF has acquired a wealth of expertise in supervising financial cooperatives with the presence in Québec of one of the largest cooperative financial groups in the world, Desjardins Group."

The Annual General Meeting and Annual Conference will coincide with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Québec deposit insurance plan, whose purpose is to ensure the stability of the financial system in the event of a major crisis.

Media representatives are invited to check the conference agenda and attend any of the event's various speeches and panels that will take place. Requests for interviews may be made through the AMF's Director, Media Relations, Sylvain Théberge, at 514-940-2176.

The Autorité des marchés financiers (the "AMF") is the regulatory and oversight body for Québec's financial industry.
