NUNAVIK, QC, Dec. 8, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - The Government of Québec has completed steps to provide Nunavik with an official land rights infrastructure by making Québec's cadastre and land register accessible to Inuit landholding corporations, northern municipalities and their citizens, and investors.
Implementation of the infrastructure will involve the creation of some 4,000 lots in the Québec cadastre across 13 northern villages in response to specific needs expressed by major stakeholders in Nunavik, including Makivik Corporation, the Kativik Regional Government, and the primary owners of these private lands, i.e., Nunavik's landholding corporations.
Major government-initiated land reforms coupled with cutting-edge technology have enabled the government to modernize land register management. Furthermore, online register services have allowed government officials and Québec citizens to work together more closely.
