Ensuring animal safety and welfare

Do not hesitate to take action if:

  • You learn about an animal in an unacceptable situation
  • You see an animal in need of veterinary assistance receiving inadequate care

There are two ways to take action:

 Complete the online form

Call our toll-free number:

For pets and farm animals: 1 844 264-6289 (1 844 ANIMAUX)

For wild animals in captivity, including exotic pets: 1 800 4632191 (SOS Braconnage – Urgence faune sauvage)

The information you provide is confidential.

In order for your complaint or report to be admissible, you must have witnessed the situation yourself and be able to say exactly where it occurred. Please include as many details as possible.

If the reported situation contravenes applicable laws or regulations, your initiative may lead to an inspection. Offenders face fines under the law and, in some cases, the seizure of animals.

Veterinarians and agronomists

Veterinarians and agronomists are required to report animal abuse or mistreatment.

Please refer to the mandatory reporting guide for veterinarians and agronomists (PDF 3.08 Mb) (French only).
