Sexuality Education
Sexuality education support offered to the school network
School service centres, school boards and private educational institutions are responsible for training and supporting school staff (teachers and non-teaching professionals in the school). The Ministère de l’Éducation supports and guides the school network with the implementation of sexuality education.
Support provided by the Ministère de l’Éducation
The Ministère makes the following services and tools available to the school network:
Support for school staff
Guidance is offered to school staff, to persons responsible for sexuality education at the school service centres, school boards and private educational institutions, and to education consultants. Education consultants are tasked with supporting the training, learning and offer of sexuality education and the Culture and Citizenship in Québec program in their respective schools.
Training content and support documents
Training content and support documents related to sexuality education enable school staff to understand the educational aims of sexuality education and the relevant topics to address, to gain information on students’ psychosexual development, and to identify the pedagogical posture they need to adopt. To consult these support documents, school staff should refer to the person responsible for sexuality education at their school service centre, school board or private educational institution.
Digital platform
A digital platform is available for those who support the implementation of sexuality education in the school network. It brings together a variety of resources that are useful for implementing sexuality education according to everyone’s roles.
Financial support
Financial support is available to the school network under Measure 15200, for school service centres and school boards, and Measure 30350, for private educational institutions.
Measure 15200 aims to support educational organizations by enabling them to free up staff who could take on the role of person responsible for sexuality education in their schools. These agents will be entrusted with the mandate to provide training and support for school staff so that they are equipped to implement the compulsory content in sexuality education. The measure also makes it possible to free up school staff in general education in the youth sector so that they can participate in training activities related to sexuality education.
Measure 30350 is intended to support educational institutions in implementing the compulsory content in sexuality education. It makes it possible for these schools to free up teaching staff in general education in the youth sector so that they can participate in training activities related to sexuality education or to turn to the services of an external organization with which they can work to offer the compulsory content in sexuality education.
Partnerships
Partnerships with organizations have been established to provide complementary training to the school network.
