The Program offers financial assistance to Indigenous family organizations and multi-sector organizations to promote the delivery of local services for Indigenous families and their children, and to make services more accessible.
The Program also supports the development of community actions for families that are adapted to the needs of First Nations and Inuit families and culturally secure and relevant for Indigenous users.
What are community actions for families?
Under the Program, community actions for families are part of a move to enhance social development, improve families' living conditions, and develop the potential of each family member. Community actions target assistance, mutual aid, emergency help, welcoming, listening, referral, support and help for families.
Community actions for families are delivered through:
- a living environment for families, in other words a place where families are welcomed and listened to, which they can attend to further their interests, aspirations and needs;
- family-focused community activities that are open and free and support children's development, enrich the parental experience, strengthen the parent-child relationship, reduce isolation and promote cultural identity.
