Obtaining a Special Benefit for Living Expenses in a Centre that Provides Addiction Treatment Services Under a Social Assistance Program

If you receive benefits under a social assistance program, you may be eligible for payment of your living expenses while staying at a centre offering addiction treatment services.

The social assistance programs are as follows:

  • Social Assistance Program
  • Social Solidarity Program
  • Aim for Employment Program
  • Basic Income Program

Living expenses

Living expenses are payable only for stays at an addiction treatment centre (in French only) that:

  • holds a temporary certificate of compliance
  • is certified by the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux (MSSS)
  • is in the process of renewing its certification

Living expenses are payable for stays at a centre that provides addiction treatment services, such as:

  • therapeutic services
  • social reintegration
  • support and assistance with recovery from intoxication
  • support and assistance with detoxification

Housing expenses

If you keep your housing while staying at the addiction treatment centre, you may be eligible for a special benefit for housing expenses of up to $416 a month for a maximum period of 12 months.

This special benefit helps you pay the expenses for the housing where you lived before your admission and that you need to continue to pay while you are staying at the centre. The benefit is paid as of the month following your admission.

You must attach certain supporting documents to your application for the special benefit for housing expenses, such as confirmation of your stay in a centre that provides addiction treatment services, and a document confirming the obligation to pay for your housing.
