Mission and mandates of the Ministère des Finances

Mission

The Act respecting the Ministère des Finances confers on the Minister the mission of advising the government on financial matters and fostering economic development.

To this end, the Ministère des Finances supports the Minister by developing and proposing economic, fiscal, budgetary and financial policies. It also develops and proposes financial assistance and tax incentive measures to promote and support economic, investment and employment growth.

Mandates

The Ministère des Finances relies on the expertise of nine major sectors:

  1. Comptroller of finances
  2. Tax law, revenue optimization and local and Aboriginal policies
  3. Economics, own-source revenue, and budgetary transactions
  4. Financing, debt management and financial operations
  5. Policies governing individuals and climate impacts
  6. Budgetary policy
  7. Tax policy governing businesses, economic development and government corporations
  8. Policies respecting financial institutions and corporate law
  9. Federal-provincial relations and financial policies

These sectors are backed by support units, such as the Direction générale de l'organisation du budget, de l’administration et du secrétariat, the Direction des communications, the Direction des affaires juridiques and the Direction de l’audit interne, des enquêtes et de l’évaluation de programme.
