Eligibility to midwifery services

Healthy women with a normal pregnancy are eligible to receive care from a midwife. Midwife appointments and tests and examinations done during pregnancy allow the midwife to determine if she can provide care to the future mother or if a consultation with or transfer to a doctor is required.

A midwife can provide care to a woman during or after her delivery even if she was transferred to a doctor during her pregnancy, provided the mother’s and her baby’s condition allows.

The implementation of midwifery services is expanding in Québec. These services may not be available in your region yet or may be difficult to access due to the number of spots available. In this case, a doctor will provide you with care during your pregnancy and assist you during childbirth.

To find the midwifery service nearest to you, consult the List of midwifery services.
