International Mobility Program

The International Mobility Program of the Government of Canada allows an employer to hire a temporary foreign worker without having to submit a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) request.

In most cases, an employer who wants to hire you under this program must submit an offer of employment through the Employer Portal. You will have to attach the number of your offer of employment to your work permit application.

Once your work permit application is approved, you will receive:

  • A letter of introduction, if you are outside of Canada; or
  • A new work permit, if you are already in Canada or if you submit your permit application when you enter Canada.

If you receive a letter of introduction, you will have to present it upon your arrival in Canada to obtain a work permit issued by the Canada Border Services officer, as the case may be.

If your employer offers you a job under the International Mobility Program, you do not have to submit an application under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program. The Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) is designed for the hiring of temporary foreign workers who need an LMIA.
