Application de la Charte de la langue française au collégial
Knowledge of French for an ACS in English
If you are studying in a program in English that leads to an Attestation of College Studies (ACS), you must demonstrate sufficient knowledge of the French language. This knowledge is assessed through a standardized test, the results of which you send to your educational institution. This test must clearly show that you have reached a certain level of proficiency in spoken and written French.
Your educational institution will be able to provide you with more information on the accepted standardized tests and where they can be taken.
If you are enrolled in a program in French, successfully completing it will demonstrate that you have sufficient knowledge of the language to obtain your ACS.
Exemption
You are not required to pass a French proficiency test if you are in one of the following situations:
- if you hold a certificate of eligibility for instruction in English
- if your schooling meets the French proficiency requirement, according to the terms and conditions
- if you successfully completed the exam of the Office québécois de la langue française to exercise your profession
- if you reside or have resided on certain Indigenous territories
Except for students holding a certificate of eligibility for instruction in English, requests for exemption must be submitted to the educational institution.
