Course Descriptions
Online French courses with in-person support (deferred asynchronous distance learning) allow you to learn or improve your French at your own pace. Learning is done using a computer, without travelling.
These courses focus on learning French and allow you to discover Québec, its culture and its values.
Levels
The levels of spoken and written French developed in the courses are beginner and intermediate according to the Échelle québécoise des niveaux de compétence en français(Québec Scale – in French only).
The beginner level comprises levels 1 to 4 of the Québec Scale. Other examples include the following:
- Gathering information before buying food;
- Consulting a healthcare professional;
- Finding and renting accommodation.
The Intermediate level comprises levels 5 to 8 of the Québec Scale. Other examples include the following:
- Writing a cover letter to accompany your resumé;
- Discussing current events with someone;
- Finding out about regional economic activities in Québec.
Assessment
The adult education centre will assess your French language level to ensure that your learning needs are met. The assessment may:
- Last between 15 and 60 minutes; according to your level;
- Spoken or sometimes written;
- Available online or at a service point.
Course structure
Deferred asynchronous distance learning offered by an adult education centre allows you to study from home or wherever you prefer, everywhere in Québec. You can meet the teaching staff at the training centre if you wish. They support you in your work and evaluate your learning at the end of each course.
Schedule
When you choose to take a deferred asynchronous distance learning course, a member of the teaching staff establishes a training plan with you according to your situation.

A fee for educational material may apply.
