Description of online French courses for people selected to immigrate to Québec

These courses are intended for you if you live abroad and hold:

  • Québec Selection Certificate (CSQ);

or

  • Québec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ).

Online courses allow you to improve your French at your own pace using a computer.

This type of course is a good way to improve your knowledge of French before arriving in Québec.

Online French courses also allow you to discover Québec, its culture and its values.

Course formats

There are two types of online courses:

  • Tutored courses: where a resource person helps you in your learning of French. This person facilitates online classes and answers questions. the tutor will also correct your homework and evaluate your participation in the course.

  • Self-study courses: you complete the online exercises and activities on your own. Your knowledge is automatically assessed throughout the course. You can also chat online with other students in the course.

    Specialized modules by job area are offered in self-study format in the following areas:

    • Administration, Law and Business;
    • Engineering and Applied Sciences;
    • Health and Nursing;
    • Tourism and trade.

French levels

Online courses with tutoring: Intermediate and advanced levels.

Self-study online courses: Intermediate level courses and specialized modules by job field.

You may need to take a placement test to determine which course is best suited to your knowledge of French.

Schedule

By opting for the online courses, you decide your own schedule. The course will take about 6 hours of your time per week.

Free of charge

Online French courses are free.

No financial assistance is available for these courses.

Computer equipment

You must have:

  • A computer or tablet capable of supporting a video conferencing application;
  • A tablet or computer equipped with a camera and a microphone;
  • A reliable Internet access;
  • A personal email address (used only by you);
  • A keyboard (preferably in French);
  • Headphones, if needed.

You cannot use a cell phone to take online courses.

Note that studying in a quiet, private workspace makes it easier for you to learn.

Technology skills required

You must be able to use your computer equipment to participate in distance learning courses. For example, you must be able to:

  • Open an email;
  • Access online learning platforms;
  • Participate in videoconferences.
