Homeschooling support services
As parent-educators, you have access to different support services provided by the Direction de l’enseignement à la maison of the Ministère de l’Éducation and your school service centre (SSC) or school board (SB).
Services provided by the Direction de l’enseignement à la maison
The Direction de l’enseignement à la maison of the Ministère de l’Éducation can answer your questions and assist you in preparing the information and documents you must submit. Forms are available on the secure site for assisting with the preparation of mandatory information and documents. The DEM can also act in an advisory capacity, particularly with respect to the activities, pedagogical resources, programs of study and progression of learning.
Guide for parent-educators
The Guide for Parent-Educators (PDF 1.05 Mb) indicates the steps to take, the applicable deadlines and the expectations related to the various regulatory steps for homeschooling. It includes explanations, examples, tips and suggestions.

Services provided by the school service centre (SSC) or school board (SB)
Your school service centre or school board provides your homeschooled child with access to certain services under its terms and conditions.
Books and materials
Upon request, your child may have free access to textbooks and learning materials under the terms and conditions of your SSC or SB, provided they are available. The textbooks and learning materials to which your child has access are the same as those that would be provided if they were attending school.
Professional services
Your child can access certain complementary student services free of charge, such as:
- psychological services
- psychoeducational services
- special education services
- remedial education services
- speech therapy services
- information services and academic and career guidance services
- support services for assistance in accessing and using the school library's resources
You can access these services where they are available and appropriate to your child’s needs.
Resources and equipment
Many resources and equipment are at your disposal, such as:
- the library and the library’s reference and reading materials
- the science laboratory and the materials and equipment used there
- the computer laboratory and the materials and equipment used there
- the auditorium and art rooms and the materials and equipment used there
- the sports and recreational facilities and the materials and equipment used there
Preparation for ministerial examinations
The SSCs and SBs organize and hold free preparatory activity sessions to help your homeschooled child prepare for a ministerial examination.
