Training on positive mental health and personal and social competencies in students

Well-being is a key factor in the educational success of students. In schools, actions can be taken to promote students’ positive mental health, foster the development of their personal and social competencies, and create environments favourable to their mental health. As such, young people will acquire the tools to face life challenges. The training sessions described below are designed with this in mind.

Training for supporting the development of personal and social competencies in students

The training Supporting the development of personal and social competencies in students, developed by the Ministère de l’Éducation (MEQ), is one of the measures planned in the 2023-2028 Anti-Bullying and Anti-Violence in Schools Plan. Several partners collaborated on its development, including the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux (MSSS). Based on the ÉKIP Reference Framework, this training is related to the implementation of content in this plan to develop personal and social competencies in students. Additionally, this initiative is consistent with the content of the training Santé mentale positive : agir concrètement pour le bien-être des élèves [positive mental health: concrete action for student well-being], developed by the MSSS in collaboration with the MEQ.

This training is intended for staff working with students in preschool, elementary school and secondary school, as well as staff of vocational training and adult general education centres. It aims to provide school staff with the tools to convey content and best practices to foster the development of personal and social competencies in students. It is also intended to prevent violence and bullying at school, to increase everyone’s sense of well-being and to develop an environment conducive to learning.

The training lasts 90 minutes. It includes seven units, each of which helps to achieve a specific objective. The training can be accessed at any time and can be completed in sections. At the end of the training, participants will recieve a link to the form confirming their participation.
