The Government of Cameroon offers Québec university students 10 scholarships for internships and research projects of three to six months at its state universities.

Program description

The internship or research project must be carried out on a full-time basis, and may last up to:

  • three months for undergraduate university studies
  • six months for graduate university studies

Internship and research scholarships are offered in the following fields:

  • agronomy (agriculture and forestry)
  • linguistics
  • health sciences (tropical diseases)

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must meet the following criteria:

  • be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident.

  • have a bachelor’s degree.
  • be admitted to an internship or a research program in a public institution of higher education in Cameroon, in one of the following fields: agronomy (agriculture and forestry) at the University of Dschang, linguistics (translation and interpreting) at the University of Buea, health sciences (tropical diseases) at the University of Yaoundé I, or agri-food and veterinary sciences at the University of Ngaoundéré.
  • be enrolled in the program on a full-time basis.
  • be studying at the time of preliminary selection of applications.

Type of support

Ten persons are eligible for an exemption from differential tuition fees for a stay of three to six months in Cameroon.

If you change programs or educational institutions, you must first obtain authorization from the Cameroon and Québec governments to maintain your exemption. This change must not prolong the duration of the program, and consequently, the period of the exemption. A change of program or institution before receiving proper authorization will result in the loss of the exemption.

Application procedure

Your application must contain one copy of the following documents, in the following order:

  • Your scholarship application, submitted on the prescribed form (PDF 281 Kb).
  • A letter of intent describing and justifying your internship or research program.
  • The original or a certified copy of your postsecondary diplomas.
  • Your résumé.
  • Your confirmation of admission to an internship or research program in a public institution of higher education in Cameroon.
  • A photocopy of your act of birth certified by a Commissioner for Oaths. If you were not born in Canada, you must provide a proof of Canadian citizenship or permanent residence and proof of your status as a Québec resident as defined in the Regulation respecting the definition of resident in Québec.
  • Two confidential letters of recommendation, written on the official letterhead of the educational institution from which they originate, and signed in ink. The signatories of these letters or the educational institution must send these letters directly to the Ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur.
  • Official transcripts of your university studies.

You must gather your application documents into a single, compressed, encrypted and password-protected folder. Then send it to the Ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur at the following email address:

bge@mes.gouv.qc.ca

You must provide the Ministère with your password separately. This can be done by using an email that is separate from the one containing the encrypted folder.

Selection process

An evaluation committee examines the applications in accordance with the following criteria:

  • previous educational experience
  • relevance of the study plan or research project (expected spin-offs for the host and home communities, and the applicant’s personal journey)
  • motivation (e.g. interest in discovering the culture and learning the language of the host country)
  • careful presentation of the application

The government offering the scholarships makes the final selection.
