Help finding your first job in your field of study

Getting your first job after graduation is an important milestone in life. Help is available to assist you in landing your first job in your field of study.

Preparing your application

A well-prepared application will increase your chances of landing a job you like.

Check out the Job Search Tips section to learn how to write your resume and prepare for an interview. These two steps are key—you need to get them right to stand out from the crowd.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the initiative, you must

  • be between the ages of 16 and 30, have earned a diploma or degree between April 1, 2025, and December 31, 2026, and have been actively seeking employment in your field of study
  • have obtained a diploma of vocational studies (DVS) or a skills training certificate (STC)
  • have obtained a diploma or attestation of college studies in technical training (DCS or ACS)
  • have obtained a bachelor’s degree or an undergraduate certificate

To find out if you are eligible for the “Un premier emploi pour toi!” initiative, you must visit a Services Québec office.

An employment assistance officer will meet with you and assess your needs. They may provide you with a letter of eligibility for the wage subsidy, as well as the necessary support and follow-up.

Financial assistance

The “Un premier emploi pour toi!” initiative supports young recent graduates who are looking for their first job in their field of study.

To encourage the hiring of young graduates, the initiative gives employers access to a wage subsidy of up to 50% of gross pay for private companies and up to 100% of gross pay for nonprofit organizations.

The subsidy is capped at the minimum wage and is provided for a maximum of 16 weeks.

Support could be provided by an employability organization (French only) if necessary.

The financial assistance offered may also include a subsidy to cover part or all of the salary or fees of a mentor for the young graduate, in addition to the costs of additional training, if necessary.
