Applying for a Non-Posted Job

In some cases, companies do not post job offers for positions they need to fill. It’s hard for persons who are looking for work to learn about these job opportunities that make up what is known as the “hidden job market.”

To find non-posted job opportunities, you should tell people you know that you are looking for work. They might have information on positions that have to be filled within the organization they work for before the jobs are posted externally. They may tell their professional contacts about you.

If you already have a job but are looking for another one, you can ask whether any positions will soon be available in departments other than the one you currently work for.

Keeping up with the news can also be useful when you’re looking for work. Company start-ups and investment projects can lead to jobs that need to be filled quickly.
