Geomatics Technologists

Job description

These individuals collect, analyze, and interpret geospatial data used for various purposes (natural resource management, geology, environmental research, etc.). They work for:

The government
Municipalities and regional county municipalities (RCMs)
Public utilities
Mapping and software companies
Forestry, architectural, engineering, and consulting firms

Environment

Controlled ambient temperature
Climatic conditions

Main tasks

Capture and analyze field data obtained using cutting-edge technologies (GPS, satellites, UAVs, etc.).
Interpret and process survey data.
Produce cadastral renovation plans.
Design and implement geographic information systems.
Manage computer systems.
Produce and process digital images.
Develop databases.
Produce digital maps, plans, and models.
Draft legal documents.
Participate in project management.

Advancement and mobility

Geomatics Technologists often specialize in one of two options:
- Cartography
- Geodesy

Formation

Most training programs are offered in French only.

Also required

Membership in the Ordre des technologues professionnels du Québec (OTPQ [Quebec Order of Professional Technologists]) to use the title of Professional Technologist.
