Job description

These individuals sanitize heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. They inspect and clean ventilation ducts. They work in:

Schools
Hospitals
Plants
Buildings
Residences
Restaurants

Environment

Controlled ambient temperature
Equipment, machinery, tools
Nontoxic dust
Uncontrolled ambient temperature
Hazardous workplaces
Falling objects

Main tasks

Treat the inside of ventilation ducts with specialized equipment (rotary brushes, industrial vacuum cleaners, etc.).
Adjust the negative pressure in the ducts to vacuum the dust.
Remove dirt and non-volatile contaminants.
Conduct tests to determine the amount of residual dust in the ducts.
Perform manual or robotic cleaning.
Plan the work according to blueprints and diagrams.
Follow procedures for working at heights and in confined spaces.
Travel regularly for work.

Training and requirements

Formation

No specific training

Sometimes required

A training certificate in general health and safety on construction sites is often required.
A Class 5 driver’s licence is often required.
