Mouldmaking Machinists

Job description

These individuals assemble the parts that make up moulds based on drawings and indications. They must be able to visualize the mould as a whole and not just one of its components at a time. They work in factories.

Main tasks

  • Program numerically controlled machine tools.
  • Use numerically controlled machine tools and conventional machine tools to make mould components.
  • Select the machining processes to be used.
  • Select the appropriate work tools.
  • Ensure the quality of the machined parts.
  • Operate different machines (e.g. milling machines).
  • Test the moulds.
  • Maintain and repair the moulding tools.
  • Possess advanced knowledge of the materials processed using the mould.
  • Manufacture, as required, forming tools and electrodes.

Advancement and mobility

  • Experience leads to senior or supervisory positions.

Training and requirements

Formation

Most training programs are offered in French only.

Secondary

Sometimes required

  • An Attestation of Vocational Studies (AVS) in numerical control may be required.
